In a bizarre turn of events, Bollywood actress and model Poonam Pandey found herself at the center of a scandal when an announcement on her official Instagram account declared her dead from cervical cancer. The shocking news sent shockwaves through social media, with netizens expressing grief and condolences for the alleged demise of the 32-year-old star.

The statement, posted on Friday, February 2, claimed, "This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness."

The news was seemingly corroborated by Pandey's manager, Nikita Sharma, who confirmed the tragic development in a statement to NDTV. Numerous media outlets, including The Independent, reported the purported demise of the actress.

However, the narrative took an unexpected twist when Poonam Pandey emerged through a series of posts and videos, vehemently asserting that she is alive. The revelation was accompanied by an explanation, stating that the entire episode was a publicity stunt aimed at raising awareness about cervical cancer screenings.

In a video addressing the controversy, Pandey clarified, "I feel compelled to share something significant with you all; I am here, alive. Cervical cancer didn’t claim me, but tragically, it has claimed the lives of thousands of women who stemmed from a lack of knowledge on how to tackle this disease."

The actress continued, "Unlike some other cancers, Cervical Cancer is entirely preventable. The key lies in the HPV vaccine and early detection tests. We have the means to ensure no one loses their life to this disease. Let’s empower one another with critical awareness and ensure every woman is informed about the steps to take."

Acknowledging the public's reaction to the stunt, Pandey posted, "I understand that the recent news of my supposed demise due to cervical cancer has taken a minute to digest, and I appreciate the warmth and concern that the world has extended in the last 24 hours."

While admitting the startling nature of the act, she urged people to consider the greater cause, stating, "Before passing judgment on the act, I urge you to recognize the alarming concern burdening women worldwide."

The Independent has reached out to Pandey's representatives for further comments on this unusual and controversial incident. The incident has sparked discussions on the ethics of using personal tragedies for public awareness campaigns and the potential impact on public trust in media and celebrity announcements.
